Where to Find the Best Coffee in Stockport
Last updated Feb 2026
Stockport’s coffee scene has come into its own in recent years. Independent cafés have opened across the town centre and surrounding neighbourhoods and good coffee is easy to find.
This guide highlights the independent coffee shops in and around town that get the balance right with friendly baristas, consistently well-made espresso and places you’ll want to go back to.
☕ The Apple Core (Core International)
📍 26 Middle Hillgate, Stockport SK1 3AY
A great new addition to Stockport: coffee shop by day, and occasional bar and event space by night. It’s a cool little spot to drop by for a proper brew on your way down Hillgate into the old town. Keep an eye on their socials for what’s on.
☕ Coffee Block
📍 Merseyway: 4–6 Merseyway Shopping Centre, Stockport SK1 1PJ
📍 Petersgate: 59 St Petersgate, Stockport SK1 1DH
A Stockport institution. Coffee Block has become a reliable go-to for excellent coffee, quick lunches, toasted sandwiches and sweet treats. With two sites across town, one on Merseyway and the second recently celebrating its first year on Petersgate, it’s the kind of place you pop into for “just a coffee” and end up staying longer than planned.
☕ Funky Monkey
📍 Address: Bramhall Lane, Davenport, Stockport SK2 6JA
A proper neighbourhood café with a big menu and lots of personality. Funky Monkey is as much about the food as the coffee — think hearty breakfasts, generous lunches and a really friendly, informal atmosphere. Great for long brunches and casual meet-ups. It’s very popular so I would suggest booking ahead if you’re eating/drinking in.
☕ Laco Café & Bistro
📍 Address: 32 Little Underbank, Stockport SK1 1JT
When I first moved to Stockport, there were always queues down the street to get into Laco. Pleased to say, since there are many more options in town now, this OG is still going strong. Part café, part brunch spot, perfect for a slow Italian coffee, all-day breakfast and a delicious assortment of freshly baked cakes. Bright, relaxed and always buzzing.
☕ Mercado
📍 Location: Stockroom, Merseyway, Stockport SK1 1PW
Mercado runs the cafe inside Stockroom, the town’s thriving cultural hub. They serve specialty Peruvian Arabica coffee alongside a menu that spans Argentinian empanadas, Italian paninis and excellent pastries, with halal options available too.
It’s an easy, all-day spot that works just as well for a quick coffee as it does for lunch, and a great addition to Stockport’s ever-growing food and drink scene. Grab a takeaway and you can find yourself a spot in the library and get a good book in too.
☕ Mouro Coffee Bar
📍 Address: 72 Heaton Moor Road, Stockport SK4 4NZ
A neighbourhood gem in Heaton Moor. Mouro is all about well-made coffee. The Moroccan-inspired interior creates a lovely welcoming atmosphere. Ideal if you’re heading out of the town centre and fancy taking a book along. It’s a good spot for solos as well as families.
☕ Ripples Coffee
📍 Address: 20 St Petersgate, Stockport SK1 1HD
A fresh and stylish new arrival in the heart of Stockport’s town centre. Ripples Coffee offers a range of delicious coffee blends — including a house mix of beans from Nicaragua, Honduras and Colombia, and rotating guest options with complex notes of caramel, chocolate and fruit — alongside cakes and cold drinks. The interior is modern and minimal, making it a great place to work, read, chat or just pause during a busy day.
☕ Sticky Fingers
📍 Address: 39 Great Underbank, Stockport SK1 1NE
If you’re coming here, you’re probably leaving with a bag of pastries. Sticky Fingers is a brilliant artisan bakery and coffee spot, known for exceptional bakes, sourdough and sweet treats alongside great coffee. A must-visit if you’re anywhere near the Underbanks, or inthe Market Hall if you want to beat the queues.
☕ Yón Orangé
📍 Address: 57 Great Underbank, Stockport SK1 1NE
One of the newer additions to the Underbanks and already a firm favourite. Yón Orangé combines great coffee with beautiful vintage-style interiors and amazing homemade cakes. Perfect for a pit stop while exploring Stockport’s historic old town.
