Stockport’s Best Pub Quizzes: A Local’s Guide
Who doesn’t love a pub quiz?
They’re the perfect low-effort social plan: an excuse to get out of the house, see your mates, argue over answers you’re only 60% sure about, and eat some crisps. Stockport is great for them, too. From packed midweek music quizzes to Friday night cash-prize battles, you’ll find a solid spread of quiz nights across the town.
(Times and formats are subject to change, so it’s always worth double-checking the pub’s socials before heading out.)
🗓 Tuesday
Red Lion, Cheadle
Address: Red Lion, 83 Stockport Road, Cheadle, SK8 2AJ
The Red Lion in Cheadle hosts a long-running weekly quiz that has become somewhat of a local institution.
Usually held on Tuesdays, this is a classic pub quiz format with cash and drinks prizes, a loyal crowd of regular teams, and a good mix of general knowledge, music and film questions. Add in decent food and a friendly atmosphere and it’s a very solid midweek option.
🗓 Wednesday
Bakers Vaults
Address: Bakers Vaults, Market Place, Stockport, SK1 1ES
Bakers Vaults runs a weekly live music quiz every second Wednesday of the month at 7pm. It’s just £1 per person to enter, which makes it one of the best value quiz nights in Stockport. The format mixes music rounds with general knowledge, and the whole thing is lively, loud and very Stockport.
This is much more of a social, high-energy quiz than a quiet, serious one. Expect singing, head jiggling, friendly rivalry and a pub that fills up fast.
SK Lowdown tip: Arrive early if you want a table, as this one tends to pull a crowd.
Red Bull, Hillgate
Address: Red Bull, 14 Middle Hillgate, Stockport, SK1 3AY
Local quiz master Simon Diamond hosts one of the most popular midweek quizzes at the Red Bull.
The weekly quiz runs on Wednesdays, usually starting around 7:30pm. Entry is typically around £2 per person, and there are proper prizes, often including a £50 bar tab for the winning team.
This one strikes a great balance between competitive and social. It’s a “proper quiz” with a host and a mic, and a jolly good night out.
SK Lowdown tip: Book a table or get there early, especially in warmer months.
The Elizabethan
Address: The Elizabethan, 33 Heaton Moor Road, Stockport, SK4 4PB
The Elizabethan is a proper local favourite and a great shout if you fancy something slightly different to a classic pen-and-paper pub quiz.
They host regular SpeedQuizzing nights, which is a fast-paced, phone-based quiz where you answer questions on your mobile instead of scribbling on sheets. It keeps things moving, cuts down on waiting around, and adds a bit of energy to the whole thing.
The quiz usually runs on Wednesday evenings around 8pm, and it’s free to play, with prizes for the top teams. Teams can be up to six people, and the questions cover a good mix of general knowledge, music, film and the usual crowd-pleasers.
It’s still very much a pub quiz at heart, only here you're allowed phones.
SK Lowdown tip: Make sure everyone brings a charged phone. Nothing kills team morale like losing points to a flat battery.
The Blossoms
Address: The Blossoms, 2 Buxton Road, Stockport, SK2 6NU
The Blossoms is a proper local, and their quiz nights reflect that: friendly, relaxed and more about having a laugh than fierce competition.
Thursday is Quiz night+ Play Your Cards Right accompanied by food and drinks offers. Theme is usually a mix of general knowledge with themed rounds.
SK Lowdown tip: Check their socials for upcoming dates and themes, as these can change.
🗓 Friday
This Godless Place
Address: This Godless Place, 15–17 Bridge Street, Stockport, SK1 1XR
If you want higher stakes, this is the one.
This Godless Place runs a Friday night quiz at around 8pm with a £100 cash prize for the winning team. Because of that, it attracts some serious quizzers — but it still feels like a great way to start the weekend.
Expect a lively crowd, good drinks, and a quiz that’s a bit more intense than your average midweek one.
A Few Quiz Night Tips
Try to arrive early, especially at Bakers Vaults and the Red Bull
Always check the pub’s socials on the day in case times change
Eat first. Thinking is easier with chips, but no one wants ketchup on their quiz sheet.
Most quizzes work best with teams of 3–6 people
