Stockport Beer Garden Guide

An ever-growing, comprehensive ‘SK Lowdown’ on pub gardens in and around Stockport. We’ve included where we like to go and why we like them, so you know exactly where to head when the sun does show up:

Featuring:

  • Red Bull Hillgate

  • The Crown Inn

  • Arden Arms

  • Angel Inn

  • The Midway

Red Bull, Hillgate

14 Middle Hillgate, Stockport SK1 3AY

Red Bull is a great local pub with a fantastic outdoor space and tiered decking area, creating a great sun trap and a good place to hole up when the sun is shining. They also sell Littlewoods Pies as the perfect bar snack, and host occasional BBQ pop-ups as well as some high-calibre weekend entertainment so keep an eye on their socials for what’s on.

The Crown Inn

154 Heaton Lane, Stockport SK4 1AR

Nestled under the arches of the Viaduct, The Crown has a surprisingly spacious outdoor decking area, and sits on the west side of the bridge, meaning you get to enjoy the sunshine until late afternoon. I’d recommend an extra layer when the temperature drops, but it’s an excellent spot for sundowners.

Arden Arms

23 Millgate, Stockport SK1 2LX

Just down the hill from the Market Place, The Arden Arms is one of the oldest pubs in Stockport. You can still appreciate the original 200-year-old features (which include a snug you can only reach through the bar). The cobbled courtyard out the back still has stable features and is a great sun trap, with a good-sized covered area for those windier, drizzlier, or dare-I-tempt-fate, sunnier afternoons, where they also have occasional live entertainment.

The Magnet

51 Wellington Rd N, Stockport SK4 1HJ

Award-winning and family-run, The Magnet is a fantastic shout in the sunshine, with an excellent array of beers and a multi-level terraced area which pretty much sees the sun until it’s dark. For that reason, it tends to get busy so get there early. Friday and Saturday, The Pizza Maker also opens its hatches, making it a great place to settle for a good few hours, especially if you’re into your specialist beers and ales.

Angel Inn

19-20 Market Pl, Stockport SK1 1EU

Right in the centre of the Market Place just along from The Produce Hall, The Angel sits unassumingly among it’s neighbours. The historic 16th-century pub , recently granted Grade II listed status is the keeper of a small and perfectly formed sun trap of a yard just out the back, with an excellent selection of German beers and real ales on tap to enjoy if you’re lucky enough to get a seat.

The Midway

263 New Bridge Ln, Stockport SK1 2NX

If you’re in the centre of town and after a bit of greenery, The Midway is a good shout. About 10 mins walk from The Peel centre on your way to Vernon Park, it has a large lawn area which catches the sun until the early evening. They serve up some decent home-cooked food too.
