Prologue starts a new chapter at Weir Mill

Some people collect art, owls, shoes… for me it’s books (and shoes, but that’s for another post). There’s something so satisfying about a new book, the texture, the smell… and so if you’re a collector like me, the news that Prologue, a new independent bookshop and hangout is opening at Weir Mill this summer will fill you with absolute delight.

This new chapter for Stockport is brought to you by the marvellous team behind Bramhall's award-winning Simply Books, and Prologue will be their sister store with a much bigger space, offering the same formula of beautifully curated shelves, an in-store café, and a jam-packed literary events programme.

The shop will live inside Weir Mill, the new Capital & Centric riverside neighbourhood that's seen the regeneration of Grade II-listed cotton mills, and transforming the area into a complex of 253 homes, green spaces, and a growing line-up of indie food and drink offerings.

Inside, book fans will be able to browse among curated fiction, non-fiction, and children's titles alongside a coffee shop and bar serving morning pastries through to evening wines and cocktails. To complement the books and the drinks, there's a full programme of events planned, including book clubs, writing workshops, comedy nights, live music, and language classes.

Co-founder Ben Johns said, "We've always believed that bookshops are a place of connection. With Prologue, we wanted to create something special for Stockport – somewhere everyone can feel right at home. We can't wait to get to know a whole new community of readers."

Prologue is set to open this Summer. In the meantime, Stockport's wider independent bookshop offering is worth a browse too.
