My Hat and My Other Hat

PINK is delighted to present My Hat and My Other Hat, a site-specific installation and exhibition by Caz Egelie.

My Hat and My Other Hat is the second edition of PINK's international residency series, which invites artists to create site-responsive works that reflect Stockport's evolving landscape. By welcoming international perspectives, these residencies uncover overlooked nuances in Stockport's urban and cultural fabric through observation, dialogue, and engagement with local materials and histories.

My Hat and My Other Hat has been developed in response to Caz's two-part residency at PINK, using Stockport's history of hatmaking as a springboard for their creative ideas. Through archival and material research and role-playing tactics, the works engage with re-fashioning — of objects and ideas that have gone out of style — as well as with the embodiment of characters that may or may not express something of the self. Underlying it all is the hat's oldest social function: its power to conceal as much as to signal, to let a person arrive somewhere unread, or as someone else entirely.

The second floor gallery will be transformed into a Medieval-inspired tavern, disguised as a costume rental, storage space, or theatrical stage — a place where the boundary between industrial production and craft, between performer and spectator, between self and character, is never quite settled.

My Hat and My Other Hat, hosted by PINK, opens on Friday 13 March 2026, 7–11pm, with performances throughout the evening from 7:30pm. The exhibition then runs from 14 March – 19 April 2026, open Saturday and Sunday 2–6pm, or by appointment.

On 20 March, My Hat and My Other Hat will come alive for a special one-night activation as part of Sidelines Festival with live DJ sets from Atalaya

(MCR) and Menu Menu (Utrecht), plus more acts to be announced. Free entry, doors 9pm–1am.

ABOUT CAZ

Caz Egelie (1994) creates installations, performances, two-dimensional works and videos. In their multi-disciplinary body of work the visual vocabulary of the works is combined with Caz' conceptual approach, and their appetite for theatre and performativity. By referring to art history and its artists and taking on unusual ways of production and presentation, Caz plays a game with real and fake, fact and fiction, reproduction and 'the artist's signature'. By defying these categorisations, Caz engages in institutional critique from the position of the jester, resulting in what one could call 'institutional jest'.

ABOUT PINK

PINK is a gallery, artist studios, and events space dedicated to advancing interdisciplinary research, innovative practice, and collaborative exchange. PINK’s mission is to foster long-term, supportive relationships with artists by providing unparalleled support, space, and resources to realise their most ambitious work.
